Monterey County’s First Youth-led Center

If you haven’t heard about the Epicenter in Salinas then you have been missing out!  The Epicenter is Monterey County’s first youth led resource and community center.   The Epicenter opened their doors to youth about 7 months ago with an ambitious goal of providing 150 local youth with resources for education, employment, housing, mental health, physical health, and wellness (including food, recreation, transportation, and recovery).  We are assuming the Epicenter has far surpassed their goal because this center never stops moving!

The Epicenter is located at 20 Maple Street in Salinas, CA. It’s a two minute walk from Salinas High School. The center is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12pm-6pm.

Their mission is to “empower at risk and system involved youth ages 16-24 to flourish by connecting them to community resources that provide opportunities for equity and hope in order to improve youth outcomes in Monterey County.”

The Epicenter is full of appreciation walls and proudly displays how the center came into fruition. Here is one of the founders sharing the Epicenter's story with a community member.

Their events have included BBQs, healthy-cooking workshops, Resource Fairs, FASFA application sessions (federal student aid for college), and resume and job application sessions.  The Epicenter’s next event is a BBQ for Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22nd from 5pm-7pm (Epicenter’s Facebook ). We hope to see you there!
