The Monterey County Health Department is offering a free 8-week seminar in Spanish this January called enLACE, A leadership and civic engagement academy.
As shared on the MCHD website, enLACE is “a program that provides community members an opportunity to learn more about leadership and provides the tools to encourage participants to engage in the processes needed to make positive and healthy changes in their communities. The program was started on research that an engaged community is a healthy community. The program is eight weeks long and addresses topics such as local government decision making and budget process, prevention, and safety issues.”
What does enLANCE mean? “enLACE means to link, to connect in Spanish. And that is what enLACE has accomplished. It has provided a space for community members to connect with each other and with community leaders. This connection coupled with the knowledge they have received through enLACE, has inspired us all to envision a healthier community that can exist when we all work together.”
Participants will meet every Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m at the Cabrillo Family Resource Center (1295 La Salle Ave, Seaside, CA 93955). They will be meeting on January 14th, 21st, and 28th. February 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th. And March 4th, 2015. Dinner and Childcare will be provided.
For non-Spanish speakers, the course will be offered in English by MCHD this Spring.
