Youth leaders from the Girls’ Health in Girls’ Hands (GHGH) Initiative of the Community Foundation for Monterey County are asking county mental health leaders to prioritize social and emotional health services for youth throughout the county.
GHGH is a countywide collaborative of the Women’s Fund of Monterey County and six nonprofit agencies that helps girls ages 11-18 in Monterey County gain better access to health information, support and services so they are better able to make positive health and lifestyle decisions. Girls involved in the program also gain powerful leadership skills and are able to influence positive changes at their schools and in their communities.
“I definitely have gained a lot of leadership skills,” said Sara Castro, 17, who attends North Monterey County High School. “We do a lot of workshops and you become more comfortable speaking with adults.”
